One of the reasons that cane furniture is so popular is because of its durability. Our conservatory dining sets are made using a natural material called cane. This raw natural material is one of the fastest-growing tropical hardwoods and it can be harvested in 2-3 years - compared to other natural materials that can take 20-30 years!

It can be difficult to choose a fabric but we have a couple of tips to help you choose. When choosing a fabric it is important to think about the room your furniture will be in - think about existing furniture, decor and colour schemes. Doing this could help you rule out a few options. 

Care & Maintenance

Rattan dining furniture is very easy to maintain and doesn’t require much cleaning. If you want to remove any dust you can use a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner on a low setting. Similarly, you can use a clean toothbrush to get into any tricky grooves on your dining table and chairs. 

It is important to not use too much water when cleaning cane furniture as too much water can damage the frame over time. If you want to remove any grime you can fill a bucket with bubbly soapy water and use the bubbles to gently clean the wicker frame. However, this isn't something that you will need to do often.

Choosing Sustainable Furniture

When choosing furniture for your home sustainability is an important factor for a lot of people. We want to know that what we’re buying doesn’t negatively impact the environment. Our dining furniture is made using cane which is a natural material that grows in the rainforest in South East Asia. 

Cane is a creeper plant, it can grow and wrap itself around other plants which encourages local communities to preserve the forests. Rattan grows incredibly fast and on average it can grow around 2cm per day! That means it can be ready to harvest within 2 years and the cane plant is able to naturally regenerate in around 5 years.

Cane has a positive impact on the environment and it is really easy to replace when harvested - unlike wood which when removed contributes to deforestation. Using rattan helps protect the local wildlife and ecosystem.

When it comes to using sustainable materials it’s important to think about how much waste would be produced. Every part of the rattan plant is used after it is harvested - the outer skin is used to create baskets or patterns on furniture whereas the cane itself is used to create dining sets and other cane furniture.
