Updated: 01/04/25

There are so many different types of garden tables, we've put together this useful guide so that you'll find one that's exactly right for you, your guests and your outdoor space. Whether you’re looking for a cosy bistro table for morning coffee, a spacious dining table for al fresco dining or a firepit table to stay warm long into the night there’s a perfect option to suit your needs.

Garden tables are more than just a piece of furniture - they’re the heart of your outdoor living space. Your garden table sets the stage for al fresco dining, social gatherings and quiet relaxation. Choosing the right garden table can enhance the overall aesthetic of your outdoor area, provide functionality and increase comfort in your garden.

The garden table plays a big part in the success of your outdoor living over the summer months. It provides a functional and stylish focal point for your patio or garden area, whether you're hosting a family gathering or simply enjoying a peaceful morning coffee. In this blog, we'll explore the different types of garden tables available, so you can make the best buying decision and get the most out of your outdoor space this summer.

Rising Garden Tables

We start with the very versatile and convenient rising garden tables. These tables allow you to customise the height according to the occasion: casual gathering, outdoor workspace or a sit-down meal. At the crank of a handle, press of a button or just by lifting and placing, you get a low coffee table or higher dining height table. One table doing two jobs is a fabulous idea whether you’re after quick convenience or a space-saving solution.

When it comes to adjustable garden tables there are two different kinds - you have manual and piston operated tables.

Manual Adjustable Tables

Manually adjustable tables require two people to adjust the table at all times. You will find two gaps at opposite sides of the table base, place your foot in the gap to keep the table base stable.

Then you will adjust the table, and use two hands to either heighten or lower the table. It’s crucial always to adjust the table with another person, if you don’t do this you risk breaking the tabletop.

Piston Adjustable Tables

Piston operated tables only need one person to adjust the table as it is operated via a lever. The lever can be found just under the tabletop, pull the lever upwards to adjust the table to dining height. When you want to lower the table to coffee height just pull the lever upwards and place your hand in the centre of the table. Apply pressure as you pull the lever and the table will lower.

One advantage of a piston adjustable table is that the table can be adjusted to multiple heights as opposed to just a coffee table or dining table height.

Garden Tables with Fire Pits

Tables with fire pits encourage you to enjoy your outside space throughout the year. In addition to a cooking function, a fire pit brings warmth and ambience to your dining table so they’re ideal whatever the temperature. Fire pit tables can be rectangular or circular depending on your requirements. Built-in at the centre, they are made from a variety of materials – glass, ceramic or metal. Gas firepit tables create a welcoming atmosphere for family and friends to gather around, toast marshmallows, or simply enjoy the dancing flames.

Beyond their practicality, firepit tales add a focal point to your outdoor living area and enhance the overall aesthetic of your garden. Firepit tables feature an adjustable flame setting - this is a handy feature as you can lower the flame when cooking. With their combination of style and function, firepit tables create a cosy inviting space perfect for entertaining or unwinding after a long day.

Garden Tables with Ice Buckets

Keeping your drinks cool is an important part of enjoying the summer outside. Cue the garden table with ice bucket. These tables have built-in ice buckets or coolers which are so useful whether you're hosting a barbecue or lounging by the pool. Cool refreshments within arm's reach instead of you running inside for more ice: job done.

Not only are these tables incredibly convenient but they also add a touch of style to your outdoor space. Some sets come with removable or covered ice buckets, allowing you to take advantage of the full table size.

Garden Bistro Tables and Chairs

Garden bistro sets are designed for two people so they’re ideal for small patios or balconies. The mood can be relaxing on the terrace in rattan armchairs with matching low side-table. Alternatively, two of you can have a romantic evening meal seated at an elegant steel or aluminium table.

Bistro sets come with a few different styles of tables. Some sets include a small low side table whereas others include a high round dining table. The tables are suitable for dining or enjoying a relaxing drink in the sun.

Space-saving Garden Cube Table Sets

There’s a lot to like about a garden cube sets. It all revolves around the cool-looking table at which you can easily seat and entertain 8 people. Then, you simply store your chairs, stools and benches underneath the table turning the whole set into a compact cube. As if by magic, your large garden dining set has shrunk to a neat cube to maximise your storage space.

Garden Tables with a Lazy Susan

Here’s another brilliant table feature for outdoor dining. Lazy susan garden furniture includes a rotating platform in the centre of the table. It allows easy access to food and drink without anyone having to physically pass or reach for anything – you just spin the platform. Some even have a fire-pit and griddle pan, making these tables an effortless and fun way for family and guests to share and enjoy your feast.

Garden Tables with Parasols

Being shaded from the sun while you are eating is important for everyone, especially younger and older people. So the garden table with parasol combination is a brilliant solution. It means you can have the base underneath the table with the umbrella emerging from the middle shading everyone and their food. It’s also a neat option if you’re pushed for space. Parasols look good because they complement your dining sets - maybe adding a splash of colour. On a warm evening, when the sun goes down, you can alter the mood by suspending candle lanterns from the inside ‘ribs’ of the parasol. Buying one with weather-resistant material will mean the colour won’t fade in the sun and it will shelter you from sudden summer showers.

Choose a Garden Table for a Perfect Outdoor Summer

There’s no doubt that selecting the right garden table can significantly enhance your outdoor summer experience. From adjustable tables to tables with firepits, ice buckets and centre-located parasols, the choice is yours depending on your taste, space and requirements. We just know the perfect garden table is waiting to make sure you have an awesome summer.

Beyond aesthetics, practicality is key when selecting your ideal garden table. Consider factors such as size, material and maintenance. When it comes to material keep an eye out for weather resistant materials like aluminium or PE rattan. Whether you’re hosting lively gatherings, enjoying quiet family meals, or simply relaxing with a book and a cool drink the right table will transform your outdoor space into a welcoming and functional retreat all summer long.
