Desser, a family-run business now in its fourth generation, traces its humble origins back to World War I. During his time in Belgium, Issac Desser connected with Flemish craftsmen specializing in various types of basketware. This encounter marked the beginning of Desser's journey, evolving into a dedicated manufacturer of cane furniture.

Quality Durable Materials

The material used in our conservatory chairs is called cane, cane is an extremely durable tropical hardwood. This raw natural material has a fully flexible central core - which means it can easily be manipulated into the shape of our rattan conservatory furniture.

Cane also has the impressive ability to contract and contrast as the temperature rises and falls. This ensures that during winter, the frame remains resilient and resistant to snapping, making it an ideal option for conservatory furniture.

Care & Maintenance

Cane furniture is incredibly easy to maintain and with minimal effort, you can keep it looking like new! When it comes to cleaning your cushion covers always read the manufacturer’s care instructions as the majority of our fabrics are dry clean only. If you’re unsure you can always contact us and we’ll be happy to answer your questions.

Some fabrics can be machine washed on a low heat or on a 30 setting, this will be stated on the care instructions which can be found on the cushion label.

Desser offers a fabric level called AquaClean - any stains or spills such as wine, ink or food can easily be cleaned with water and a clean cloth. If you have pets, grandchildren or are just prone to be a little messy then AquaClean fabric can put your mind at ease and keep maintenance down. 

When cleaning the cane frame it’s best to use as little water as possible. To remove grime you can get a bucket of hot soapy water and use the bubbles to remove any dirt and marks. Always pat dry your furniture after using water to absorb any excess moisture.

Dust can be effortlessly eliminated using a gentle brush or a vacuum cleaner set to a low setting. Additionally, for hard-to-reach areas, a dry toothbrush can effectively remove dust and dirt.

Cane furniture is usually placed in a conservatory and these rooms are known for being sun traps. Routinely flip your cushions to even out any fading that occurs. Similarly, if you use one set of cushions more than the other you could swap the cushions from one chair to another. If you have blinds these are a great tool for protecting your furniture. Lowering the blinds can reduce sun exposure and mitigate the gradual fading that may occur over time.
